John (Jack) Lyons joined Luddy in 2026, prior to which he worked at the US Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, DC. He has a doctorate in Materials from the University of California, Santa Barbara and a Bachelor of Science in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
His research interests include understanding the role of defects and dopants in semiconductor materials and elucidating the electronic structure of ultrawide-bandgap semiconductors and other novel electronic materials using first-principles methods.
Jack was previously awarded a LUCI Fellowship with Dr. Sasha Efros in 2018, won the NRL-Edison Sigma Xi Young Investigator Award in 2021, and was named a Fellow of the American Physical Society in 2025.
