The Luddy School's scholarships for incoming, first-year students are designed to recognize curiosity, creativity, and the potential to make a meaningful impact on society-centered innovation.
The scholarships listed below are for incoming, first-year undergraduate students. The Luddy School also offers scholarships for continuing undergraduate students.
Scholarship for innovators and entrepreneurs
Shoemaker Scholars
The Shoemaker Scholars are a prestigious group of students from a variety of IU academic programs who encourage technology innovation and entrepreneurship. The scholarship program provides students with experiences that help them grow as technology innovators and entrepreneurs. It is worth $3,000 for each year a scholar is selected.

Preference or special consideration: For first-year Luddy students. Preference is given to students demonstrating or expressing interest in innovation and entrepreneurship. When all other qualities are equal, preference is given to Indiana residents and students with financial need.
Robert C. and Mariol B. Luddy Scholarship in the Schnabel Scholars Program
Amount: Varies
Major: Any Luddy major
GPA: 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
Class standing: Undergraduates
Preference or special considerations: Student has demonstrated a strong history and commitment to community as determined by the Scholarship Committee. First preference will be given to students from Central Indiana and second preference will be given to students from any area of Indiana.
FIRST® Robotics Scholarship
Amount: Up to $2,000
Major: Any Luddy major
GPA: N/A
Class standing: Incoming first-year students; renewable
Eligibility:
- Be a senior in high school
- Have competed on a FIRST Robotics Competition team and/or a FIRST Tech Challenge team during high school
- Be admitted to IU Bloomington
- Be admitted to Luddy as a full-time student
For the scholarship to be renewable each year, you must remain in good academic standing and maintain a 3.2 GPA.
Special considerations: Apply for this and all IU and Luddy scholarships via the Indiana University Scholarship Application by February 15. Be sure to answer the extra question for the FIRST Robotics Scholarship in the academic portion of the scholarship application.
Project Lead The WAY (PLTW) Scholarship
Amount: Up to $2,000

Class standing: Incoming first-year students; renewable
Eligibility: If you meet the following requirements, you’re eligible to apply for a scholarship of up to $2,000 per year, renewable for four years:
- Are admitted to IU Bloomington
- Remain a Luddy major throughout your undergraduate education
- Have completed three or more courses in a PLTW track and/or earned the AP + PLTW student recognition
Special considerations: Apply for this and all IU and Luddy scholarships via the Indiana University Scholarship Application by February 15. Be sure to answer the extra question for the PLTW Scholarship in the academic portion of the scholarship application.
Luddy Scholars Program

Eligibility: To be eligible to receive an invitation to apply for the Luddy Scholars Program, students must meet the following guidelines and provide all necessary documentation.
- Submit a complete application for admission to IU Bloomington by November 1 of the senior year of high school
- Indicate computer science (B.S. only), data science, informatics, cybersecurity & global policy, or intelligent systems engineering as the intended major on the application for admission
- Be admitted to Indiana University Bloomington and be a first-year Luddy student.
- Be an Indiana resident
- Demonstrate a record of academic excellence
Special considerations: Eligible Indiana high school students who are incoming first-year Luddy students will be invited to apply to this competitive scholarship opportunity. Finalists may be invited to campus for an interview weekend during the spring semester.
Conditions:The standards for maintaining your position as a Luddy Scholar are high.
- Luddy Scholars must maintain a record of academic excellence.
- They must remain a computer science (B.S. only), data science, informatics, cybersecurity & global policy, or intelligent systems engineering major at IU Bloomington.
- They must participate fully in all aspects of the Luddy Scholars Program, including extracurricular activities.
Special opportunities:Our annual Luddy Seminar series will feature tech visionaries from strategic locations around the United States. Luddy Scholars will also be offered a variety of programs with faculty, alumni, and technology business leaders.
