As the former Assistant Dean of Development for the Luddy School of Informatics, Computing and Engineering, I remember starting the annual “Step Up” campaign. Our office did a wonderful job lighting the fire for a creative way to give back and have fun. It meant a lot to me, as an alum, in my work, and as a celebration of my family’s connection to Indiana University.
IU runs through our family’s veins. My daughter, Roma, and her fiancé, Jarod Tonte, are both Luddy graduates, now carrying forward the spirit of innovation and service that defines our school.
My wife’s love of music and her formative experiences at the Jacobs School of Music have inspired not only those who have heard her sing, but also our son Wilbur, who has carried that creative spirit into his own business, “Walkover Sounds and Stones,” right on the Bloomington square.
For me, giving back to Luddy is more than a tradition, it’s a pleasure. I’m grateful to continue supporting our students each year and to help continue this cycle of growth and generosity. You never know what great things a simple gift can do.
