Admission requirements

Before applying to the M.S. in Data Science program, you should have a basic understanding of the programming languages Python and R, in addition to math and probability.

The Luddy graduate admission committees will consider students who have a three- or four-year bachelor's degree. Applicants should have a minimum of a 3.0 (B) or higher GPA.

Curriculum

The 30-credit hour curriculum combines core coursework in data analytics, machine learning, and data management with specialized electives in four tracks

  • Applied Data Science focuses on real-world applications in areas like health, business, and science.
  • Big Data Systems emphasizes data engineering, cloud platforms, and large-scale systems.
  • Computational and Analytical provides a strong foundation in algorithms, statistical modeling, and programming.
  • Managerial Data Science integrates data science with decision-making, project management, and communication.

Students complete foundational courses, track electives, and a capstone project or thesis.

Degree tracks

To graduate, you’ll complete 30 graduate-level credit hours and choose from four distinct learning tracks in order to develop career-specific expertise.

Because the Data Science Program is an interdisciplinary and applied program, it is STEM eligible via the U.S. Department of Education.
